[R-lang] guidelines for lmer model comparison

Hi folks,

I am not sure whether everyone is already aware of this and I can't claim
that I understand all of the discussion, but the following link discusses
ways to compare *linear *mixed models with different fixed and/or random
effects and what the trade-offs are.

Since more and more people are using mixed models, I think it would be good
get a better understanding of the issues raised (and luckily discussed) on
that page.
