[R-lang] Moving from Linux to Mac OS

One of our researchers is considering replacing her Red Hat Linux
workstation with a Mac Pro. One of her concerns is being able to build R
libraries on the Mac. As an R-illiterate sysadmin I suspect this would
no more difficult on the Mac, but we would like to make sure.

Also, some years ago I was told that R does not take advantage of
multiple processors. Has there been any improvement in that area? This
would have an impact on configuring the new system with more processors
vs. fewer but faster ones.
