"The Future of Sign Languages"

Presenter: Carol Padden, Ph.D., Professor of Communication, Faculty
Affiliate, Education Studies, Human Development, Critical Gender Studies

Sign languages have existed most likely as long as spoken languages, but
will they survive into the future? In the age of the implant and the genome,
what purpose can sign languages serve in the new century? This talk looks at
sign languages around the world and what they tell us about the present and
the future.

When: 7:00 to 8:00; Saturday, October 18, 2008 (The doors open at 6:15 pm)
