From lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw Wed Nov 26 00:38:22 2008 From: lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw (Lngmyers) Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 16:38:22 +0800 Subject: [R-lang] errata for Baayen (2008)...? Message-ID: <492D0AFE.8020809@ccu.edu.tw> I'm going through Baayen (2008) with a gang of students this semester, and occasionally we hit upon an anomaly (e.g. actual output not matching what's shown in the book - in cases where randomization isn't involved). Since Cambridge put the book out in paperback, I assume bazillions of classes all over the world are going through the book as well. Is anybody compiling a list of errata? I haven't been doing it systematically, since I assumed somebody else was, but maybe I should go back and check again (we're about halfway through). -- James Myers Graduate Institute of Linguistics National Chung Cheng University 168 University Road, Min-Hsiung Chia-Yi 62102 TAIWAN Email: Lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw Web: http://www.ccunix.ccu.edu.tw/~lngmyers/ Phone: 886-5-242-8251 Fax: 886-5-272-1654 From lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw Thu Nov 27 01:29:19 2008 From: lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw (lngmyers at ccu.edu.tw) Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2008 17:29:19 +0800 (CST) Subject: [R-lang] errata for Baayen (2008)...? We've found several genuine errata so far - most are trivial, of course, but some have the potential to confuse beginners (e.g. my students). As I said, I wasn't compiling them systematically, but I think I should now, given that nobody else seems to be checking (besides HB himself - he tells me he's hoping to post an errata page online when time permits). The errors may not be obvious if you're using the book as a reference, but they jump out when you go through it line by line in a class, as we've been doing. - jm > I'm going through Baayen (2008) with a gang of students this semester, > and occasionally we hit upon an anomaly (e.g. actual output not matching > what's shown in the book - in cases where randomization isn't involved). > Since > Cambridge put the book out in paperback, I assume bazillions of classes > all over the world are going through the book as well.
