[R-lang] vowel space ellipses (and IPA fonts)

Just a quick note to thank the folks who've given me tips on the vowel 
ellipse code. When I find time to get back to this I'll post a hopefully 
finalized version -- since it appears that the answer to my first 
question (am I reinventing the wheel?) is "no". Of course, anybody else 
is welcome to beat me to it.
