And it doesn't write anything to the "weights" file?

Unfortunately, in the process of trying today to get a version  
compiled that would work on Windows without Cygwin, I nuked my PC :- 
(  Therefore I will probably not be able to prepare a fully functional  
Windows version of this software.  There are two options:

1) I've put a copy of the modified megam on my compute servers (morel/ 
truffle/porcini) at

     /local/contrib/cpl/MegaM/megam_mod

   This one works on Linux.  You're welcome to use the software on my  
compute servers.  Many of you have accounts on these servers already;  
if you don't, just let me know and I can set one up for you.

2) You can download the tweaked source code at

      http://idiom.ucsd.edu/~rlevy/megam_mod.tgz

    and try to compile it yourself on Windows! :-)

Hopefully this should cover everyone; if any other problems arise,  
please don't hesitate to speak up.
