Hi everyone,
I am close to finishing up my complete comments on your final projects
and you all have a bunch of material coming back to you in your
pigeonholes (campus mail for Ross & Wen). I want to congratulate you all
for a great job in the course -- the final projects were overall very
satisfying to read -- and for all your hard work. We really covered a
lot of material and I was impressed at how much you all absorbed. As I
think I mentioned before, there is a whole lot to statistical inference
and for those of you who wind up doing quantitative work, what we
covered in this course is just the beginning, but hopefully it has laid
a good foundation, which was the goal.
I have belatedly put up a one (double-sided) page list of major
high-level concepts I think you should be taking away from the course:
http://idiom.ucsd.edu/~rlevy/teaching/fall2008/lign251/one_page_of_main_concepts.pdf
If you think there's an important concept you got out of the course but
that I haven't listed, please let me know as I believe that a list like
this can only be improved from student feedback.
Also, the "final" version of the lecture notes are now online at the
course website, including all the answers to homework problems. As you
know, a subset of these notes will be going in shortly to a book
proposal, so any feedback you might have would be greatly appreciated!
Have a great holiday break and I'll see you around in January! For
those who want more there is always Lign256 ;-)
Best
Roger
